Subjects that will be brought up at the coffee meeting: I went to the Clark County ARES/RACES Training meeting last Saturday and some interesting topics were brought up I want to share.

– Las Vegas National Weather Service will provide Spotter/SKYWARN Training for Sun City Neighborhood Watch/Preparedness and Amateur Radio Operators. The purpose for this is to supply local and outlying area in supplying weather reports to the LV NWS during incumbent weather. Anyone interested resident or visitors are invited.

– A SkyWarn Training course will be conducted for Amateur Radio Operators at the Government Building, May 11 at 9:00 am. If any radio operators, Sun City or visitor HAMS contact Ken Johnson, W7BES by the repeater or e-mail to w7bes@cox.net. The NWS would like to have the Fire Station 107 activated on actual alerts.

– Don Backstrom, AA7AU of the Henderson Amateur Radio Club approached me at to if Sun City Amateur Radio Group would be interested in being involved in the HAM MESH Net, an Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network. It is a project we should investigate, I really do not have much information of it, but Don would sure want us to look into it. For more information on it you can look at the HARC: www.w7hen.com. I may have more information by Wednesdays gathering.

LVRAC meets next week

The Las Vegas Radio Amateur Club’s April 2019 General Meeting will be this coming Wednesday the 17th.  The meeting is scheduled to start at 7:00 PM, but please feel free to arrive earlier and network with your fellow hams for a social hour from 6 to 7PM.  The meeting will be at our regular location, Red Rock Search and Rescue building at 340 Villa Monterey Dr., Las Vegas, Nevada.

This month’s presentation is by one of our members, Fred Anderson – K5LX.  Fred will be discussing the challenge of designing and building an effective 40 meter mobile antenna.  The center loaded “Bug Catcher Vertical” has consistently outperformed all other HF antennas in mobile operation.  Building and installing one on a vehicle can present unique challenges requiring attention to detail in design and construction.  Fred’s presentation will show how and why this antenna is made like it is and how it relates to the theory behind it.

The Club has some great raffle prizes for your Amateur Radio Experience.  So come to the meeting talk to your fellow hams and support your club.

Remember check the Clubs Web Site http://lvrac.org and like the Clubs Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/LasVegasRadioAmateurClub  for current updates and information.  And follow LVRAC on Twitter at https://twitter.com/LVRAC1
